I Fly Like Paper
Oil Paintings by Joshua Hogan
- at the Jeff Edwards Gallery -

Joshua Hogan's paintings are a succession of adding and taking away. Oil paint, along with pastel and charcoal, allows him this flexibility. He can manipulate or remove paint, while still leaving a hint of the mark behind. In his more recent work, Hogan has added gold and bronze leaf to the canvas surface. These new works also introduce the bold use of color. A deeper progression from previous work, his paintings continue to explore the pull of intangible phantoms that challenge his ambition as an artist. Hogan's paintings appear in various public collections including; PNC Corporate Offices and The Greater Latrobe Conservation Trust.

In addition to exhibiting his own abstract paintings regionally and nationally, Hogan is the co-owner of Box Heart Gallery, a contemporary art and fine craft gallery that provides custom framing and other artistic services. Hogan is a member of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees Union, Local 489 Studio Mechanics and works as a scenic artist within the entertainment industry. Most recently, he has worked on productions such as; The Avengers (feature film), Super Eight (feature film), and I Am Number Four (feature film). He is also manager of logistics and installation for Mox Box Consulting and has mounted various public art exhibitions including; Urbanic 2: Catalyzing a Regional Economic Renaissance at the Pittsburgh International Airport for the Temporary Exhibit G20.

We Must Never Forget!

Will we remember the way life was, the way it used to be
The way children frolicked about playing happy and carefree
Will we remember the way spring was, blooming wildly with flowers
The way we'd jump and play in puddles following its rain showers

The way the summer sun beat down on our backs, sweat glistening on our skin
The way we retreated into the shade as our faces were cooled by the blowing wind
The way the fall days grew increasingly cooler, leaves falling to the ground
The way the leaves changed their colors becoming more and more brown

The way the winter snow fell lightly to the ground leaving thick blankets of white lace
The way it looked so calm and peaceful like a picture of heaven's grace
Will we remember the way life was before freedom was attacked
For on that fatal day, 9-11, there was a grave impact

Will we remember what happened that day when so many lost their lives
The way life seemed it wouldn't go on unable to survive
Will we remember those who perished, the innocent and the brave
The victims and the ones who aided and tried to help and save

Will we remember the tragedy when our country was assailed
The way our patriotism united us as one so together we prevailed
We will remember all of this, everyone across our nation's land

We will remember what our country represents and the words "United We Stand, God Bless America.”

"I FLY LIKE PAPER" featuring JOSHUA HOGAN

" I FLY LIKE PAPER "
FEATURING
JOSHUA   HOGAN

 OPENING RECEPTION
SEPTEMBER 24,  6 - 8PM

EXHIBITION
SEPTEMEBR 24 - OCTOBER 29, 2011

Join us Saturday evening from 6-8PM for the Opening Reception of "I Fly Like Paper" featuring the newest series of work by Joshua Hogan. This new series of paintings was inspired by the John Magee Jr's poem; "High Flight."

High Flight

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air. . . .

Up, up the long, delirious burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or ever eagle flew —
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

Now on Exhibit: " J O U R N E Y " featuring Kim Curinga

Digital Art and Photography
Exhibition: August 26- September 17, 2011

Make sure you make it into the gallery for "JOURNEY" featuring the Digital Artistry of Kim Curinga.  As many of you know, the Opening was Friday, August 26, 2011.  The Exhibition runs through  September 17, 2011.  Included in the show is some of Kim's amazing Digital Art and Photography ... some of which was featured in an Associated Press article "Right At Home, Decorating With Photo Art" by Kim Cook, earlier this year. This show will give you some great ideas and some imaginative concepts that you can put to use in your very own home. One of the more popular styles in the show is Kim's Stylized animals.  "Charlie" seen here in black , white and shades of gray seems to be a crowd favorite.  The great thing about this is that Kim can stylize your pet too.  That's right!  Just bring us your favorite image of your pet and let Kim see what she can do for you.   The better the quality of the photograph or digital file, the more options that are available. These "Pop Art Originals" make great gifts as well.  To see more examples of Kim's work, visit or website: www.jeffedwardsgallery.net  and click on the "Now Showing" tab.  If you have any questions regarding this process, please feel free to either email Jeff at jeff@jeffedwardsgallery.com or give him a call at 412-833-3306.
