"Sunward I've climbed... High in the sunlit silence.
Hov'ring there, I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air."

I Fly Like Paper
Oil Paintings by Joshua Hogan
- at the Jeff Edwards Gallery -

Joshua Hogan's paintings are a succession of adding and taking away. Oil paint, along with pastel and charcoal, allows him this flexibility. He can manipulate or remove paint, while still leaving a hint of the mark behind. In his more recent work, Hogan has added gold and bronze leaf to the canvas surface. These new works also introduce the bold use of color. A deeper progression from previous work, his paintings continue to explore the pull of intangible phantoms that challenge his ambition as an artist. Hogan's paintings appear in various public collections including; PNC Corporate Offices and The Greater Latrobe Conservation Trust.

In addition to exhibiting his own abstract paintings regionally and nationally, Hogan is the co-owner of Box Heart Gallery, a contemporary art and fine craft gallery that provides custom framing and other artistic services. Hogan is a member of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees Union, Local 489 Studio Mechanics and works as a scenic artist within the entertainment industry. Most recently, he has worked on productions such as; The Avengers (feature film), Super Eight (feature film), and I Am Number Four (feature film). He is also manager of logistics and installation for Mox Box Consulting and has mounted various public art exhibitions including; Urbanic 2: Catalyzing a Regional Economic Renaissance at the Pittsburgh International Airport for the Temporary Exhibit G20.
